silly people in there trucks.
SO today i was cruising along and i came across a guy a little older than me so still young. He was driving a dodge about a 2000 he had exhaust on it thats about it. I passed by him not to fast but i guess fast enough to get his attention. Then he sped by me, started revving his engine you know the whole i think i can take you attitude. We both came to this light where we would turn left. When the light turned green i took the left turn slow so he could get beside me. I was still in first and before he was even next to me i heard him nail it and attempt to fly by me. I punched the gas and took it all the way to 5th and just before i was out of his sight and over the hill(about 20 car lengths) i turned on the flashers. I even had time to make a u turn and meet at the top of the hill. Overall i guess he was nice he waved i waved and my day went on.

I agree. This forum doesn't think much of illegal street racing. I'd suggest s2ki for them.

Good race and ignore the people on here. All anyone does on this forum is post negative comments anymore. I dont post or visit on this site nearly as much as I used to because now we have a bunch of people whining about this or that. Its not nearly as much fun as when we were just a small group of car enthusiasts talking about the cars.

S2KI doesn't condone it either. If it did, I'd cancel my subscription.
Best for him to find a Civic forum. |

All I know is that there is a time and place for everything. I enjoy cranking it up as much as everyone else, driving for over 30yrs I just tend to pick my time and spots carefully ...............when I remember.

There are so few stewies out there, why would you risk taking one off the street permanently? There is also only one of you, why would you risk taking that off the street permanently? You're a big boy and can make up your mind for yourself. We all like to show off our cars in different ways. At least you beat him!

One significant problem with street racing is that it's not a controlled environment like a racetrack. There are no containment walls, restricted areas, safety equipment, etc. Often the person who is hurt or killed is an innocent bystander.
Another problem is some guys sometimes put more power into a car than it was designed to handle. That, coupled with lack of competitive driving experience and the inability to safely perform sudden evasive or corrective maneuvers at high speeds is simply an incipient accident. Think about this.......You're driving along with your wife and children in your minivan. Beautiful day and your on your way to spend it at the beach having fun with your kids. All of a sudden, a "street racer" T-bones your van. Your entire family is killed. You survive.

I do understand the possibility of dying and or killing others. I fell like the place i was at in my town i knew very well and its never busy because its right by the towns high school and school is not in so no one is on this one street. I know there are places where i would never race due to the fact that i don't know my surrounding. Thanks though for everyone who wants to look out for a fellow s2000 driver it means alot.

Let me rephrase my post original reply. I street race. I know its dumb. This forum doesn't respond well since it has a more laid back and track tested attitude. I post my street encounters on the s2ki "street encounters" forum since the people there enjoy reading about them, know its not smart, but still do it themselves. I would suggest you to put "street encounters" on s2ki for the same reason I do it.

LOL, It's easy said than done. I told myself many times to leave the ego at home, but when I see someone passes me I have to downshift and chase. I like to chase more than to race, but when it comes down to the cops it doesn't make much of a difference! HAHAHA. A little competition on the road doesn't hurt anyone just make sure you don't risk your life or anyone else's doing it! Keep it safe or go to the track!

s2ki has a street encounter section...... So youre cancelling your s2ki subscription you are also off this site right? Man my internet connection should speed up with all this saved bandwidth. Anyways you have posted many videos of you carving up some mountain roads I seem to remember you getting some speed and zipping right around those blind corners. I guess thats safer than two guys on a open road gunning it.

I don't agree that all posting here is now negative, but I've seen more recently than in the past. Lighten up already! If you want to dis another member here you're in the wrong place, we're all at the bar with Sam sharing stories and advice.
Street racing is a flame war waiting to happen here, we all know that (and those that didn't know that now do) so don't write it if you're not ready for that reaction. On the other hand, a lot of people here have had stories and experiences of technically breaking the law by speeding, and can't honestly throw stones at that house... I know, there is a difference between simple speeding (or even the occasional friendly race "in clear weather with no traffic and otherwise good conditions" - I've done that myself and written about it here, and it was fun), and ego-driven street racing where you're not really thinking about the conditions or safety. That's what gets people's dander up - racing for emotion without really thinking about the dude with his family that had a long day and pulls out in front of you when you're going fast enough to win but not slow enough to stop the way that dude expected. Or the kid who pulls out because he has no clue that you can't stop that fast, or anyone who doesn't even see you. All of these, and many other tragic stories, ended badly... I think most street racing doesn't end that way but nobody here wants anyone here to join that club. Admit it, when you're in the race zone you're not thinking "I hope nobody pulls out in front of me", you're thinking "hit the shift, keep the line, I gotta stay ahead of that guy", right? I'd wager that every one of the tragic race crashes that I've seen here in town ended up with "OH S$%T!" and the sudden realization that it was not a safe race track but a public street with other people on it... So don't be offended. Some people here don't like street racing because they don't want you to ever join that horrible guilt club. It has nothing to do with your ability, it has everything do to with the fact that other people may be on the road oblivious to the fact that you're racing, and it could really wreck your day. And your car. And their life. And yours. As Java says, be well. Last edited by Scooter : 07-03-2008 at 11:49 PM. |

Hmmm, is this the hot troublesome thread that has caused someone to quit? My two cents, hope no one hates me for it...
I'm kinda middle of the road in many ways. I'm older than many and younger than some. Heck we didn't all buy S's to be old and boring. Generally you buy a sports car to well drive sporty in a vehicle made to do so. Just last night I was out with some friends, many years younger. The S has been on stands in my gargae getting some tweeks so I was out with the bike. Mine is a cruiser, the others had crotch rockets. We went and hit the twisties, they took it easy since I was on a cruiser, kept it under 100 for the most part. Anyway, there are many who'd say it was stupid. I hate to say older folk so I'll say more conservative folk would say that's stupid because it's much to fast and less conservative folk, usually younger would say it's stupid because it was much to slow. Me, I've got it in my blood, can't do anything about it. If I always drive slow as I do alot with gas and yes safety in mind then I'd go nuts, get in a deep depression or something. You gotta let go sometimes. For some it's an occasional drink, some weed, pills (prescribed or not), gambling, sex, smoking the legal leaves which cause cancer in the smoker and the receiver of the second hand. Maybe it's something good, jogging, running, biking (pedal power), sports etc. Some people need to go fast and when you decide now is the time, well now is the time. Not next week or next month at the track but now! So anyway, call me a speed freak but don't ever call me late if your offering some good chow! BTW, it was late, no traffic, just three crazy bikers, stone cold sober, well maybe a bit heavy on the coffee... PS, It's better to say you had a spirited drive or ride rather than say you raced. It was funny to hear these younger guys I rode with call it a spirited ride. OK, now it's time to duck and see what flies over head! Play nice...

Another thought while the brain cells are active...
To the spirited street, um, drivers.
EDIT: Um, I didn't realize this was the Racing Discussions Forum so I guess my post is off a bit. This seems an appropriate place to discuss all forms of racing, uh, spirited driving...

Don't street race. I say it to myself too. It doesnt always work as well as I hope though. I certainly wouldnt wind it all the way up to 5th on the average streets on the east coast. Thats going pretty fast. The highway maybe. I have the same car kid. I know the temptation. Sometimes I get a little nutso too. But I try not to street race. Thats my sermon for the day. As with any sermon, do what you want with it. I street raced in the S once though. A 90's vette. In second gear I was half a car up and that was all I needed. So I backed off and let him go. He knew it. Frankly it was fun but I doubt I was going over 55. I drive spiritedly often. Particularly when chasing around with other S2k's. But it's not flat out racing. Racing is pushing the envelope. It's dangerous to everyone. Try not to. Do the best you can. Ya know I'm almost 54. I can say this stuff now. But trust me kid, I have done some incredibly stupid things in cars in my younger days. Now I'm old and have lived long enough to be able to preach. So I do. Tough Titty if you don't like it. Thankfully I never hurt myself or anyone else. I wouldnt want to have to live with that. Wish I had pics of some of my finest work though. EDIT:: OK I'm not done yet. I should also point out that when I was a kid, and we used to rat race alot, (thats what we called it back in the day) I had to bury some friends. Well 2 anyway. Also had to get the tow truck often. My only totaled, flipped, destroyed car was my 2002 TI BMW. But there was a LOT of wrecks. Very few deaths, but some. So I aint perfect and never was. Last edited by H20 : 07-04-2008 at 05:32 AM. |
