Race video: S2000 vs RX-8, Miata, RSX, WRX, Skyline

Here's an interesting video of a 5 lap track race in Japan by professional drivers comparing the capabilities of Japanese sports cars. Guess who won? There's a great shot of the S2000 shooting ahead of the RX-8 on a pass and never looking back. The Miata got left in the dust by the rest, finishing 4 secs out of the pack. My biggest surprise is that the RX-8 did so poorly. The driver was really struggling with acceleration and braking. The video is in Japanese but I think you can follow the action.

RX-8 doing poorly is no surprise to me. I instructed a guy on Streets of Willow in an RX-8 for a session and the thing was a total POS. No acceleration, terrible handling. It was a tremendously boring ride. Really turned me off to them.

Nice. I never saw that color on an S2000 before. The car would have been even faster if it was blue.

Terrible handling for the RX-8? I really don't think this is an accurate statement. It is a very well balanced car and handles nicely. The car does not have acceleration off the line, but when driven properly around the track it keeps up with "faster" cars. The RX-8 has an excellent reputation for being an easy car to drive fast.

And no, I don't have an RX-8.
