October Drive Re-Con Run
Well Mike and I went up to Idylwild Sunday and had lunch at the Idylwild Cafe. Pretty good place to eat. Nice drive up once you reach the base of the mountain. There are passing lanes asscending and descending. we left at 10:20 and had little traffic and what we did hit we could pass because of the lanes. Not as steep as Palomar and not quite as tight in spots so you can carry a little more speed setting up for corners. But .... there are a few turns that can fool you. We are going again on the 13th or the 20th early in the morning just to see what it is like at our normal meet up time. Any one interested in joining us for this re-con run?

Cool Vinny,
We can hammer out the meeting time and place as we draw closer to the 20th. Anybody else? |

Hello Cosmo.
Of course you are welcome to join in on this Re-con Run ... stay tuned for time and meeting instructions. Perhaps you and Vinny could meet up prior to heading north on the I 15. |

Well I might go for the hell of it on the 13th with Mike around 8:00 am. Would you be up for that Morgan?
I still want to do the 20th as well. Last edited by s2kx2; 10-02-2007 at 05:39 PM. |

Not sure now if I can go on the 20th. Southwestern College, which is 2 miles from my house, has traffic schools for $35 and the 20th is one of the days. They offer other days as well, but they don't work out with my schedule and some are only in Spanish. Dec 1 would be the next one I could attend if I don't go on the 20th. I don't want it to go down to the last second in attending. I haven't gotten my letter from the CHP yet telling me how long I have to get the class completed.

Looks like only the 27th is the only day good for me. My Saturday schedule for October is:
Oct 6 - Meeting with tax client Oct 13 - Party with Sammy Hagar in Cabo Oct 20 - Traffic school If we were to do a Sunday, only Oct 14 is bad for me because of Cabo.

According to my friend Mike who lives in Simi, his house is 139 miles from murrieta. A bit of a trek for a morning drive.

guys take a look at Nate Harrison Grade road it off the 76, it's just after Pauma Reservation road, the only prob is I don't know the condition of the roads
It looks like it goes up ans around to the top of south grade on Palomar there are alot of roads around there that need to be checked out, http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=13&iwloc=addr Last edited by HELL_ON_WHEELS; 10-22-2007 at 06:25 AM. |

I have printed maps of that area and was looking at that road, I have a few more
Thats the only prob is finding which ones are dirt roads (and yes it would be cool to have an STi on those days I'am looking for a daliy driver LOL) maybe we could do the normal going to Julian and then look for some of these roads on the way back what do you think about that? |

The drive for Saturday is officially cancelled due to the entire city engulfed in flames.
I can just hear the extremist Jihadists now..."Look, the infidels are burning in hell!"

OCTOBER RUN ?
Well there is some talk of going to Idylwild Saturday the 27th if there is enough interest. I realize with the fires that many cannot go on short notice but Mike and I are feeling out any interest for this trip. Lets just hope that there are no fires in Idylwild. Vinny are you still up? give me a shout if so.

It was a good drive. It wasn't as challenging as Palomar and Mesa Grande, but it was good. Woud up being a really long drive, 325 miles by the time I got home. Basically, we went up to Idyllwild, then took the 243 all the way to the 10, went through Palm Springs, grabbed the 74 back over the mountains to the 371, to the 79. I would have prefeered to go left at the 79, but we didn't know what was going on with the fires, so we went right to the 15.
