Thumbs down Another ticket

Yeah, I was on my way to a client on Palomar Airport Rd in Carlsbad and there was a motorcycle cop hanging inbetween the trees and bushes on the median with a laser gun. 73 in a 55. This one will stick because I just did traffic school back in October. It's going to hurt. I'm usually pretty good at staying under 65 on roads like that, but I was late that day. He got me 2 blocks from my destination. I was pissed. I wish cops had better things to do...like actually help to solve some of the 33% of murders that go unsolved every year instead of just being revenue generators.

Bummer!

For those of you who might come out this way, here are the driving rules.

1. Morning rush hour is from 5 am to noon; evening rush hour if from noon
to 7 pm; Friday rush hour starts on Thursday.

2. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you'll be rear-ended and cussed
out.

3. A STOP sign is just a suggestion (Simply Tap On Pedal).

4. If you're driving 70 in the fast lane in a 55 to 65 miles per hour zone, you are
considered a road hazard and will be flipped off. (If you return the flip
or flash your lights, you'll be followed home).

5. When you're alone and inching along, the carpool lane is moving; if
you're in the carpool lane it will be inching along while all of the
regular lanes are moving.

6. If you're six car lengths behind the car in front of you on the freeway,
12 cars will cut in front of you.

7. Up to nine cars can make a left turns after the light turns red at most
intersections.

Sorry to hear that Vinny. I did the same thing within 3 months. Bummer the 2nd one he wrote me up for my actual speed. 85 in a 65. I was pissed at the guy in front of me in the fast lane going too slow. When I got the chance, I passed and opened her up and then I saw the lights. Can't seem to learn the first time. Now I use the cruise control set at 70. Sucks to see all these other cars fly by, but I can't afford another tickie.

Yeah, it sucks because I was going to get another discount in June because of having 20 years of driving. I was down to $1150/year. I'm not looking forward to the increase.

Sorry to hear about your ticket, but traffic enforcement is an important part of our job as well as solving murders. Most motorcycle cops mainly do traiffc enforement, so don't be mad he's not out solving murders. We all like our S200s and LOVE to go fast, but you can't be mad at the cop for doing his job. Just gotta find the right places to go fast

i used to agree with #7, until they put up those red light cameras...my dad got one, $100 fine in the mail, and i got to admit, the picture came out very clear...time to get a plastic cover that will fool the camera...until those become illegal...

but that sux bad vez...i'm frequently late to things as well...

Sorry to hear about that. The fastest I was clocked was doing 143 in a 55 on a Yamaha r6 I used to have. That was about half a mile from my house. CHP biker pulled me over and talked to me for about 15 minutes then gave me a warning, I nearly pee'd my pants. I must say that was some of the most uncomfortable 15 minutes I have ever experienced.

And the last time I needed one, when my step-daughter was missing for a couple hours, it took an almost an HOUR for one to show up even when they were told I had an open line on the phone FOR AN HOUR and could hear my step-daughter's muffled cries on the other end with 2 strange guys talking to each other, all of them unaware that here phone was on and I could hear what was going on. I should have gone speeding down Olympic Parkway looking for one. I'm sure I could have found one in 3 minutes.

Sorry, but telling me they are just doing their jobs, at least around here, just doesn't cut it with me at this time.

That really sucks. If you contest it, it will probably get dropped since only 5% of all traffic tickets get contested. If you show up and the officer isn't there, then you automatically win since theres no one there to accuse you of anything.

You can also talk to a prosecutor and get it reduced to probably 60 in a 55(by guilty plea) since you've had a decent driving record.

Yep traffic enforcement is a very important part of the job. Where else would they get all that revenue from?

Things that will draw cops attention. Excessive lane changes. Moving at a different speed than the prevailing traffic. Following too close (my pet peeve). Flashy sporty cars. Changing lanes too close to another car. Cops prejudice against certain cars. I have had cops tell me that, so I don't want to hear it.

On the freeways look in your mirror as you pass the on ramp. Look for the guy in a hurry and follow at a distance. Stay with the pack. Don't go through the intersection after the light turns yellow.

Not trying to preach here. I spent much time driving in various cities around the country and especially in Southern CA. Had 1 ticket in the last 40 yrs. Driving a yaller stewie, I'm extra cautious and try to stay close to the limit in residential areas. I am by no means a slow driver.

Yes, they have quotas. They don't call them that but they are expected to write a certain amount of tickets in a given period, based on the amount of traffic.

Great stuff Phil. Also, know the local taboos. Around here, I keep it at 9mph over the limit if I can't see well enough to know where the highway patrol may be hiding, and often drive right by them with no issues. When I visited Connecticut a while back, I found everyone was going the posted speed limit so I did the same, and ran into troopers running at it as well. The truckers in particular are a good clue - if they're at the posted limit, it's a good idea to stay there too, or if they're at +10 that's probably safe.

On my way to a client and going down a 2 lane side road that has a 65 miles per hour limit and I had this gut feeling it was being patrolled today. So, I was doing only 60 and 2 miles later, going down into a small valley where there's an overpass with brush was a waiting motorcycle cop hiding with a radar gun. I wanted to flip him off going by as he was trying to get his quota in on the last day of the month
