Day & Weekend Trips in Texas

Hi Guys,

looking for suggestions of cool trips in and around Austin. There are a couple of favorite routes we like to take going out east of I35 through Georgetown up to Saledo. The little art galleries are pretty nice, but the choices for restaurants and drinks are fairly limited.

We also like the trip out to Frederiksburg with some stops at wine yards. Any cool routes the Stewie feels good on backroads to San Antonio or over the Devils Backbone? Any good trips out of state or down to the coast?

Anything appreciated and always looking for like minded stewie drivers.

Thanks, Franz

Salado is cool. The nice way to Fredricksburg is to head out 1431 from Cedar Park to Marble Falls, then south on 281 to Johnson City. I've never been further west than Marble Falls but the road might still be fun.

Just stay out of Rockdale, those crooks ticketed myself and 3 other cars for speeding when the only person speeding was the last car as he was trying to close the gap.

100 mile loop is really nice. Lot's of good drives in hill country area outside Fredricksburg.

The drive through Bastrop state park is also pretty nice.

Just google the Austin area and then map out a nice drive in the hill country.

Hi Bjurasz,

tried that one, I love the drive out 71 and then going through Spicewood, hit the winery and off to Fredericksburg. The 100 mile loop would be interesting.... Bastrop ha... just went to lost pines resort and took the backroad. Nice golfing but the back road was a little to bumpy...

Found last weekend a nice drive down to San Marcos through Lockhart (great BBQ if you are a fan).

Thanks again for the suggestions,
Franz

100 Mile Loop is a great drive but it takes a bit to get out there as it is outside Leakey. You can drive it either direction since it is a loop, but start out in Leakey and take:

Hwy 336 to Hwy 41
Hwy 41 to Hwy 335
Hwy 335 to Hwy 337

337 takes you back into Leakey. It is one of the best set of roads in the central texas area.

It's also pretty close to Hunt Texas which is where the Stone Henge replica is located. The area around there is very scenic.

If you find a route you like, keep me posted. Might be worth a drive down from Dallas.

Take hwy 29 West of Marble Falls out toward Lake Buchanan. Hit the Fall Creek Winery in Tow, work your way around the north / west end of Lake Buchanan and down into Canyon of the Eagles park. Or, from Buchanan Dam head toward Llano and then onto Fredericksburg that way.

One major word of advice - keep your eyes peeled for Deer. Anytime of the day they will strut down the road out there.
