Question for the Texans.

Hey all, my Integra GS-R has been broken into twice in the past 2 months and another time 3 months ago; it has an alarm, but they disconnect the battery and I'm the only car hit in the apartment complex (I'm in San Antonio, TX btw).

I've about had it and I'm thinking of selling it and purchasing a Honda S2000; I've wanted one for quite some time now but it's been out of my price range... until now. I'm wanting to have something I can park outside b/c an apartment with a garage unit is another $110/month. From what I've read the S2000's need a flatbed to be stolen, but the tops are cut into for the seats. I would be getting mix of torx bolts and the McGard bolts if I went ahead with the purchase.

I was wondering are the S2000's still sought after often for the seats or has that kind of died down in the past couple of years (I searched the forum and a lot of the stolen seat threads were back in 2002).

I live in AZ and I hear at least once a month on our local forum on S2KI about someone getting their seats stolen, and I see them on another local honda forum for sale all the time (a forum known for teenage ricers and theives)... If you are parking your car outside, absolutly get a hard top. I wouldn't park mine outside overnight without mine...

Parking a defenseless ragtop outside at night? I agree with Sexy.

Do you what you godda do, but it might be worth that extra $110/month for a garage.

True, but if I got a garage I could stick with the Integra and not worry about theft or the extra $5k loan to take out for a S2000; I'm trying to pay off my school loan which is why I'm hesitating to do both the S2k and Garage. The Integra is a fun car to drive, but I'd really like to see what FR is really like; I have a feeling the Integra doesn't even hold a candle to it.

Yeah, the S2000 is more expensive than the Integra to buy, or did you mean to own/maintain? My insurance would go up $50 a month for the S2000 which isn't bad. 1 more year and I'll be 25 with a discount. woot.

My suggestion, stay away from the S. The stewie is one of the top cars in "illegal" activity... So if you have problems with your Integra, trust me you will have with an S.

My baby is in a garage parked for when the weather is right... F

I was doing some thinking tonight and it ended along the same lines as you put it. I would be trading one theft-issue with another, this time it would cost me money for a top rather than a slim-jimmed door. I'm going to stash away some money until I can afford a nice S and a garage'd apartment to go with it.
Cheers to what's to come.

Just to reiterate.... S2k only has remote locks NO FACTORY ALARM!!!

I know this thread is old, but seat thefts are alive and well in south FL. Someone just took mine ... and the car was parked infront of my house! In my driveway! And it was covered! (NSX was in the garage). And I was in the house asleep !!! There were two last month at my Honda dealership, and another is in the shop ahead of me now. 4 I know of in 2 months, just at my one local Honda dealer. This is still a HUGE problem. The insurance company suggested I buy used seats from a Miami "Recycling" center for $4500! Where the F&$k do they think my seats went? I won't be supporting the problem. This was a pro job. Didn't scratch the car or take the aftermarket stereo.

You need seat lock bolts, and a good alarm. Ideally a hardtop if keeping the car outside.

as far as holding a candle, no it doesn't. my friend has an 02 with i,e,and a tune and i smoke him in my stock s2k. as far as parking an s2k in an appartment parking lot where there is already issues of break ins, wouldnt do it, it's a loud target and an easy one to get into, and for the experienced guys not too hard to steal either. if a garage is out of the question and you keep the integra, try gettin an alarm with a pager, and run a power wire from the battery to a hidden stereo capacitor(the smallest one will work fine) and then to the 12v input for your alarm(and hide the siren too). that way when they undo yourr battery your alarm is still blowin so you will get the page and hopefully them punk ass mfs will take off.

I was an auto adjuster for over 5 years for a few of the larger insurance companies. The seats the pedals and the shifter knobs were the most common to be stolen. I had a claim once they found the guys s2000 in the back of his complex not a scratch on it no top cut nothing. The thief pushed it back there we assume and took the seats shifter and pedals and locked the doors back and shut them lol. No this wasnt fraud either this was commonly how we found them unharmed due to a thief with experience. The less experienced ones just cut the tops. But yes to answer your question the seats are still saught after, but look on the plus side you can probabally go down to your local swap meet and buy them back at a damn good price.

Yep yep! My Integra was stolen on June 11th. I found a 2002 S2000 with 15k miles on it in Florida, flew out and bought it on July 3rd. I drove home that night and the next day. =) When my Integra was stolen I got the apartment complex to move me into a unit with a garage so all is good now!
