S2K Meet in Southern MD

I really hope I can get a good turn out for this. I am scheduling a meet and cruise here in southern MD at the Calvert County Fair Grounds.

When: Sunday April 27th 1:00pm

Where: Calvert County Fair Grounds, Barstow MD, Off of RT. 231
( PM me for directions)

Details: Arrive at the fair grounds at 1:00pm, we will hang out there for a while, walk around for a while look at other S's talk to new people. Then at around 2:15pm we will cruise down to Solomons Island which is beautiful place. There is a car wash, resturants and of course the famous tiki bar (please bring a DD ) So it should be a good time. Look forward to seeing you.

Yeah if it's on RT 231 than that's right. Should be right anyway if it says Barstow MD.

Sonic,

If time permits, I may be interested in attending (I was surprised to find a MD meet in the 'Southern' forum, though... I was only checking in here because I was in FL for a number of years). Send me some email, no PMs, as I don't check this forum much... or post it on s2ki.

Can't make it but I'd appreciate it if someone could save a few of those snipes for me. Can't get them here in Hooterville, the lands too flat. Great with gravy. I think jagg's recipe calls for cheese.

(Where is brother bobby anyway? Since'ee relocated to DC he'z been kind'a sparse 'roun' these parts . . . golly whillikers! Ya don't think'ee'z fallen in with the wrong crowd, doo'ya? 'Wearin' wingtips, a pencil-wide tie, dark glasses n' drivin' a . . . . a . . . (shudder) . . . . Volvo?)

sorry Sonic, I'm not givin' it up, but I will tell you that you absolutely gotta hunt snipe at night. Nocturnal, the snipe be. I prefer to use a crossbow, but most like a shotgun.

Once you catch one, I'll send you The Recipe. You're gonna need a roll of copper tubing and a stainless steel cauldron.
(obscure Walton's reference for you elder statesman)

The shotgun hunt'z're whut got snipe hunts shelved fer so many years. 'Godditt closed down fer everyone. Too many hooples takin' each other out chasin' the slick liddle brossards.
Ta the best'a my knowledge snipe hunts're still illegal ('S'not'ta say that they don't ever happen) in the petro-chemical state.
'Never been much'uv'a hunter so I'd gladly defer to anyone more current with snipe hunts.
(Yo! Big liddle b! You pickin' up this transmission 'r whut?)

Yes sir, we gotta get ya out snipe huntin there sonic I perfer to use a few bats and a big plastic bag myself but everyone has there own tweaks to get'em. Yea, I've been pretty,"sparse 'roun' these parts" as good old JJ would say. Man I gotta tell this last week has been kickin my azz. and the next 2 weeks will be also. Since gettin up here to D.C. I'm part of the Old Guard now, still Infantry I'm not about to give up my Blue Cord. I've had to attend this Regiment orientation program, its a 3 week school to prepare me for the duty's of the Old guard. Basically how to perform proper funerals, retirements and drill and ceremony since the Old Guard does everything old school. Also one of the main points is to get us use to standing. We have test on that called standing proficiency the last one was 45min standing, cant move or you fail and you have to redo it all over again. Sucks and on top of that you cant sit down all day long. Anywho needless to say i cant wait til its done.

oh, yes, we have been know to hunt a few snipe or two in these parts. the firearms in the dark is a definite danger though. baseball bat method works well, however jagg's crossbow is not a bad option. down here, it is usually a ritual of the new moon. and a burlap bag (no plastic, going green dontcha know), or a croaker sack is a necessity. and our snipe are much smaller than the variety that java describes. if you are to bag a half dozen in a night of hunting, you have done well. they are so tasty that it is all worth it. they have such acute sight and hearing that good camoflauge is important and one must remain absolutely still. their sense of smell is not too good and for some of the good old boys that really works out. there is nothing like a good snipe hunt and i think that perhaps we should all convene and have an S2000 drive and snipe hunt combined. it is illegal here...you cannot get a snipe stamp for your hunting license.

and though the hunting of snipe is illegal, the snipe is not an endangered species.

I prefer to do my snipe hunting the old fashioned way... with bare hands. You don't ruin the hide with buckshot that way. It may take a few more bush beaters, but it's worth it in the end.
