Driving School
So does anybody know any programs in the Northern Virginia area that teach how to drive performance cars at speed? Something like bring your own car to the track and just have an instructor give some pointers or something. The last time I tried to practice on my own I ended up in a telephone pole (not in the s thank god), so I figure some professional help couldn't hurt

You just need to find a larger space. I practice skid control in a parking lots when it rains, the big one similar to the AutoX event. FREE, no need to pay intructor to babble at your ears.

Big empty parking lot is just a little hard to get a lot of speed in. I was looking at the "Skip Barber's High Performance Driving School"
http://www.skipbarber.com/driving_sc...hp_school.aspx and it sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. The only problem is the price tag. $3k is a little much for just 2 days (They gotta be making ungodly amounts of money from that) so if anybody knows about something like that, but cheaper... |

Google SCCA and find the local club in your area. Those guys know all that stuff.

Ser, I'm always goin' on about "like the ol' knight said . . choose wisely."
Optin' to get into a drivin' school like Skip Barber'r Bob Bondourant'z likely the wisest thing that any one of us Stewianz could do to improve the combination of us'n the car. 'Lotsa benefits'n no drawbackz, other than maybe the price'uv admission. It's the ultimate "mod" that doesn't stay with the car when you move on to somethin' else; it stayz with you. It's also neat in that it'll allow you to run up against a similar car with thousandz'a dollarz worth'uv "improvementz" n' leave'im'a smokin' pile like ol' Sgt. Snorkel alwayz does ta good ol' Beetle Bailey. Jus' havin' Stewie don't make ya a driver. Gainin' the experience makez ya a driver. Here'z to your experience Ser. My hat'z off to ya. Best'a luck, Java

Summit Point has lots of driving classes/courses. My +1 took a defensive driving course and a high speed evasive driving course there. They also have Friday track days. Google Summit Point and you'll find something. (and not all courses are $3000)

Wow, their BSR courses sound great! I'm finally gonna learn how to drift without hitting anything! Will I need new tires at the end of the day?

I'm not sure if you use your own car or one of the track cars...

To my understanding, everyone brings their own car. Then if you'd like, you can have the instructors drive your car to show you how it's done, then they'll ride with you to make sure you don't f*** everything up and hit the wall. (hoping that won't be me! knock on wood)
