Vafc 11

i thought members might be interested in the tuning i just had done by a reputable performance shop with a new dyno. there was a discussion some time ago about installing a vafc 11 on our cars. well, i just had the install and tuning done and was able to pick up 16.6 hp. i cannot recall the torque figure at the moment. i guess the important thing to stress is that the tuning/install needs to be done with a dyno and a knowlegable calibration specialist. the shop also does fabrication and welding. if anyone lives within driving distance of boston, i would suggest this shop without reservation.
they have a website- DENT Sport Garage. check it out.

I advise checking those settings in a few months time. I'm not sure if it applies to the VAFC II or not, but the engine management will learn your settings and compensate for it. I think an ECU reset evry now and then fixes it.

This is something I'd probably have to check up a bit more on.

I used a VAFC I and got 8 HP and 6 lb of tq. when I was NA. Now I use a VAFC II to keep the AF ratio where it needs to be under boost.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

you know the old saying"how fast do you want to go, how much money do you want to spend". including vafc and dyno/calibration time- $509.00. judging by how well the car runs, i'd say it was well worth it, at least to me, especially when it is so hard to get any extra performance from the s2k.

to others who have also mentioned the ecu resetting itself- that is only in the low throttle position, which was not changed. i specifically asked this question, having heard about this before. i also called apexi who said the same thing, and stressed having a qualified calibration specialist dynotune the settings on the vafc 11 to extract the most power and avoid any check engine lights.

did you have any problems with the ecu resetting itself? what type of turbo/sc are you running?

I didn't have the VAFC in long enough for the ECU to reset itself and also didn't have a guage to test/watch the AF ratio under WOT or partial throttle. Now I have an AEM wide band to watch the AF ratio and have the CT SC.

Thanks Addict, first n' foremost you're satisfied, n' as you're the one footin' the bill that's all that matters, ain't it?
With some of the contortions n' cash that folks go through to eke out 5 horse, $509 for a solid 16 horse sounds like a real deal to me too.
Enjoy it n' be well.

you can get it done much cheaper then 509 if you try. The unit can be found in the 200's install is free if you are a lil handy and to get a v-afc dyno tuned is usually pretty cheap around 100-150. I got my other car tuned with the standalone pretty cheap. It was a awd dyno it was 100 an hour the tuner I had come in is the best in my area for haltech standalone and he only charged 40 bucks an hour. So it shouldnt be to bad.

It's not much more expensive than an oem or Mugen ecu. I've seen it $1500.

How different were the TQ and HP curves after the tuning session?

hey hondaddict, what is your mod list that got you the 16.6 gain in hp? is it just the vafc2 or did you add also an intake, race header, exhaust, decat, flywheel, etc?

yeah, i know the original post was over a year ago...
