How to replace OEM low beam HID bulbs on an '06
Hi all, I know this question has been asked before and I did a search, but didn't find much info.
Also, which is the best way to get to the bulbs? Under the under the hood or through the fender firewall? Any advice will be greatly be appreciated. -D |

fender is the easiet of the two you mentioned. Personally I took this time to take the front end off the car, both headlights out completely and clean the connections and random stuff...if you dont have little hands this is basically the only option for you.

Hey Disco.......
Changing the HID bulb in your s2000 is a task that requires you to be extra gentle, and isn't like a normal bulb setup....... Handle with care! Stewie's HID bulbs have high voltage and temp. Get the honda service manual before you attempt, and read up on it. Ever get cracked by a bad coil? HID lamp is worse, with a chance for a vaporizing burn. Would be worthwile to let the dealer do it if there are any uncertainties on your part. Regards, Jagg Last edited by jagg : 03-26-2008 at 07:11 PM. |

dude, not to be rude, just change them yourself. I have taken the assmbly out COUNTLESS times to bake the headlights, change bulbs, etc. It is not a major issue. ONLY the idiots who dont disconnect the negative battery terminal MAY get shocked doing it. If you have the time, take the front end off the car. there are 10 bolts underneath the bumper, 1 on each side of the fender, 2 on the top of the bumper, 4 bolts on each side holding a brace under the headlight, and 3 bolts actually on each headlight.
It is complicated to get the bulb back in properly going thru the fender. I would suggest taking the 30 minutes (if you have done it before, maybe an hour if you havent) and take the front end off. |

What year is the car? From my understanding and experance (Volvo/Mazda) a Xeon/HID head light SHOULD last you to the 4-6y mark (maybe more) and a standard halogen should last you 3-5y. On my Pilot I use the Silver Star Sylvaina hedlights becuase I drive on very dark mountain roads with lots of animal life and the OEM (Not HIDs) just didn't cut it. My right one seems to go out ever year. However this time I put them in the way the dealership tought me on handle the HIDs so maybe it will change. Now on my Wife 04 TL they are still going bright and strong (HIDs at the 4 year mark) The dealership that I work at, HIDs where under warrenty and both of them had to be taken out and sent to Volvo or Mazda so they could figure out why one had gone out so early and the other one did not. It was a big deal we had to send them off in special packaging with an entire discription about how the blub look when we took it out of the car, year of the car, number of miles, etc.etc. We also had special gloves that where kept in a locked box when we had to change them out. The gloves sat in some type of solution that wouldn't harm the bulbs. So if your car is still under warrenty take it to the dealer (also the bulbs wont cost you any thing if it is still under warrenty).
AP1, you sound like you are doing this way to much. I would take the car to the shop to see if somthing was wrong with it. Maybe the harness or assembly is out of wack if you are changing out bulbs "Countless" of times. Or maybe you are just handling the bulbs incorrectly.
