I was going post this privately, but I thought others might be interested....
Chaz - great ride today... been reading about brake fluid and rotors and superchargers ever since we parted ways. Here's what I found: Here's that science of speed supercharger you mentioned - pretty sweet, but not carb certified.. argh (by the way, I looked at all the pics, and sure enough, the cruise control unit seems to be replaced by a white blastic jug of some kind in the front left of the engine compartment ... I wonder why?). http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc..._Supercharger/ I really like this SC - especially how they've specifically designed it to not require modifications to the engine, making it actually a reversible proceedure to install. Pretty cheap (comparatively speaking) too - ~$4,000 - not bad. I've been thinking a lot about how, when I took you for a ride in my s (and showed you the limits of stewie's handling!!), and you noticed how my rotors were warping slightly and making that kind of inconsistent feeling under braking. I was meaning to ask you - do you think the smell coming off my brakes was the smell of boiling brake fluid (implying old/low performance brake fluid that with a lowered boiling point), or was it something else? Also, is there anything I can do to keep my brake rotors from warping due to heat? I was driving about as hard as it's possible to drive, nearly locking up all four wheels on almost every corner, so I'd imagine the same sort of thing with my rotors warping would happen if I were to take stewie to the track. Does the fact that they were warping mean I need better brake rotors, or perhaps I can put something on the calipers to try to cool them (and indirectly, the rotors) off a little better? Here's the Dot5.1 brake fluid I was thinking of getting - Castrol SRF http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?tp...action=product Also, there's a meet next friday in west covina - you interested in going? http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...ic=673449&st=0 |

Well Eric as far as the brakes go the only way to completely solve the warping issue is to put slotted or drilled rotors up front with a good set of pads and some high boiling point brake fluid. Leave the rear brakes stock for now untill you do deceide to superchager your engine. About 90% of your stopping force is in the front so start there frist. As far as the smell that was the materials in the brake pads getting HOT and burning. As the pads and rotors get hot that is what boils the brake fluid in the caliper piston causing what is called brake fade or quite simply loss of brake pedal.

Hehe, honestly, I don't know... it was from a drinking club I was in during university that I managed to keep in tact all these years. I tried looking up the club to see if they were still around... no luck... actually, I couldn't find one anywhere on the internet either.... That would be pretty cool though... have everyone at our meets drive with the top down and the loyal order of water buffaloes hat on... too funny!

Just got back from a run on the Snake, CHP is now sporting Dodge Chargers! I wonder how one with a police package would handle on the Snake, it would almost be worth a ticket to find out. LOL No just kidding I do the speed limit.

haha, seriously, I've looked, and I can't find it either. It was made by an 80-year-old lady for the drinking club I joined in university when I lived in Canada. Serious market opportunity here. Could sell probably at least 4 or 5 of them.

You NEED to travel back to Canada, back to that university, and track that old lady down. Use St.Bernards if you have to! Post a wanted ad on Craigslist that says your looking for her. You can force those Canadians to help you also! Bring a stereo with a Celine Deon cd (with the song With The Power Of Love on standby) and be ready to play it at ANY time. It'll take them 2 seconds before they start looking. If she's (sadly) six feet under, then uhhhh.............. r0tt3n, you might have a gold mine on your hands. I'd pay $ for those hats!

Yeah. Confluence of circumstances. Work has been berzerk. Most body shops aren't open on weekends. The insurance company wanted 2 quotes. The second quote came from a body shop that was really slow on the uptake (Bair's Keystone) and sort of didn't respond to e-mails or phone calls for about a week. Anyways, according to Duke's insurance company, I have a cheque in the mail now, so hopefully that will cover it. Should be good for next weekend hopefully.
