Insurance in California

I was wondering the average people in socal are paying for full coverage insurance that are over 25. How much per month and what company. Im curious to see if I am overpaying and by how much.

I am 25 one speeding ticked less than 15mph over through progressive I pay 160 a month full coverage highest limits possible i think its 50 / 300000 not 100% sure though.

I think I pay around $800 a year, but I have a clean driving record. What company are you with? $160 a month seems high. I think USAA and Mercury are good in CA. The mandatory minimum limits in CA are 15/30/10 (in thousands, the numbers stand for per person/per incident/property damage). If you don't own a home, lower limits are ok. Like the saying goes, you can't bleed a stone. If you own a home, you should go at least 100/300/50. If you're liable for an accident that goes over your limits, the other party can go after your assets, namely your house.

I was paying $105 per month for my 08 s2k through Mercury for 15/30 protection, with 12K miles/yr. I am 33 and have a clean record.

I added a used 92 integra to my policy (liability only) that I bought a few months back and my insurance actually went down to $95/month. I just changed my allowed miles from 12k to 4k/yr on my S2k.

Never thought adding a car to a policy would make it go down but I guess it makes sense if you think about it.

Mercury Insurance. $446 every 6 months specifically for the S. 50/100/50, c&c w/ $250 deductible each. I could probably do better if I raised the deductible.

However...
I have a total of three cars on my policy, two drivers, and the S is listed as for pleasure use only... which is accurate in all senses of the description. So I'm getting a multi-car discount, the good driver discount, multi-policy discount (homeowner's insurance is with Mercury also) and a "group discount" because my husband is considered by them to be a scientist because he has a 4 year degree in Mathematics. I guess they figure the ability to handle advanced mathematical problems makes someone less of a risk on the road.

Guys in Ca.need Wawanessa. I know what ur thinking. You've never heard of it. But my roomate had it and told me to get it. I was paying twice then that with Mercury Insurance.

Full coverage $750 a year. $500 Deductable. Got rear ended last year. They took care of it in 1 week. No problem.

Actually, I have heard of them. I've also heard good things about them too. And Mercury pissed me off enough about a month ago over something that frankly I ought to do some comparison shopping. Thanks for the reminder that Wawanessa exists!

I have 5 cars under one policy so my numbers are off, but i pay 760 per yr for the S2k with 1 mil blanket coverage with 100 deductable thru Wawanessa. I have had several small clams with them (I have teenage daughters) with very happy results.

I have heard about Wawanesa in the past but never really paid attention since the name was so weird. Well I just called them to see what the fuss is all about.

I am currently paying around $1200 a year for both my S2000 and my Integra. I just got a quote from Wawanesa for $769 a year!! And this is also for more coverage!

Thanks guys!!

It's a Canadian company with an A+ rating. Only available in CA and Or in the states. Saving me a bundle over Mercury.

I would switch if it weren't for the fact that Wawanessa won't cover a company owned vehicle since they consider that a commercial use. Go figure. I'm the only one who drives this company owned vehicle but that doesn't seem to matter. So I would still have to have one vehicle with Mercury and then the savings for me wouldn't be enough to offset the hassle of switching and keeping track of multiple policies. That bummed me out. Oh well.

lol, hmmm. Certain theme emerging here. Folks focus on the damndest things. The additional amount we pay in Ca for tax and insurance is peanuts in this economy. I moved to Ca from a fly over State in the early eighties. My salary nearly doubled. The $92k home my wife and I bought was just appraised at $1.2m post real estate crash.

Dissing a State for a few hundred in taxes and insurance? silly. Dissing a State for electing actors makes more sense. You'd have a point anyway.

I just switched to AllState. Was really surprised their quote was less than my existing Gieco policy. Guess the big guys are feeling the pressure from the low end carriers. I think it is about $420/yr, but I am an old guy with a clean record.

Will check Wawanesa tho.

$1k deductible? holy crap

Yes I'm with you, I hate insurance. Chris Rock said it the best, insurance shouldnt be called insurance, it should be called "in case shit". Now, if you don't file a claim the entire year, shouldnt you get like a partial refund? haha

Ya'll *do* know that motor vehicle insurance through carriers like AllState or Farmers or whoever else is not actually required in the State of California, right? We are actually only required to provide proof of financial responsibility. For most of us, that takes the form of liability insurance, however we are not required to carry liability insurance. We all just think we are because none of us wants to (or can) pony up the $35k minimum cash deposit which would be required by DMV to self-insure. We also don't usually self-insure because $35k isn't enough to cover the possible damage that can happen in real life. And even if we had $100k sitting around doing nothing, would we want to risk losing it all? And anyway, that only covers damage to other people and other people's cars, not ourselves or our own.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...cts/ffvr18.htm

So we can hate the insurance companies all we want (they aren't on my Christmas card list either, okay?), but they are providing us with something which we are either unable to or are unwilling to provide ourselves.
