Upgrading wheels, what size/offset?

I have a 2003 S2000 and eventually wanted to upgrade the wheels and tires. I already have my idea for tires but on wheels, what size/offset should I get. I don't know anything about this car. Is 17" better than 18" and whichever one you help me decide on, what offset do I need to get because I know the front wheels are staggered from the rear wheels. I'm just not used to that. Thanks for any info.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Gomarlins3,

Thanks for the information. Do you possibly have a pic with the 18's on your car? Does it still ride nice? Thanks. Oh, and where did you order your wheels from?

Ok, i found some. They are 18x8's in the front, and 18x8.5 rear. They both have offsets of 48mm. I am going with the falken ziex512 tires but need to know which size to get. Can anyone verify that these wheels will fit and which size tires would fit on the falken ziex 512 line? Thanks.

Ok, I guess I am right on this. I am getting 225/40/18 for front and 245/40/18 for the rear. Does that sound right?

Well crap, I keep confusing myself here. Now I went to another website that had fitments for an 03 s2000 and most of them were 215/40/18 for front and 225/40/18 for rear. The guy I talked to recommended 225/40 for front and 245/40 for rear. Which one do I use? UGH!!!!!!

gomarlins3, do you have a drop on your s2000? If so, what did you utilize? I'm considering an s2000, and I'd like to get an idea of how much upgrades might run me. Also, does anyone have experience with the skunk2 lowering springs? They appear to offer a pretty aggressive drop (approx 2"); whereas, the Eibach Pro-Kit is only about 1"...thanks.

Yea i had some skunk2 lowering springs on a 98 prelude 2" the dropped was good but the spring were too hard for me.I ended up putting the stock ones back on in about a week.I thought the spings was great if your only tracking. They are the only part that i know if that i would listen to the tag that says for off road use only.I dont remember if the box had that on it but it should.

I have the same wheels as GoMarlin3 but I think he paid less since I ordered mine from the factory. I like a clean look with a little lower profile appearance than than the stock so I lowered my S about 1" or so. I elected to replace my stock 17 and 17.5 wheels with 18" all around. The size rims I elected to go with was 18x8.0 +51 offset F and 18x9.0 +60 offset R. I believe that you will find that many of the newer model 18" wheels weigh the same or in some cases even lighter than the stock 17" wheels. They are not inexpensive however.

Since I only lowered my car by 1" or so, I elected for the following sizes of tires: 225/40-18 F and 255/35-18 R. I need a little wider rear tire and the enhanced grip since my engine generates over 400 rhp and the wider tire helps from swapping ends and we all know is a trait associated with our S2ks. The size wheels, tires and the lowering were coordinated to ensure that the car maintained its full perfomance and handling characteristics and no rubbing occurs during hard cornering.

Everyone has their own idea as to how they want their car to look. You want to be proud of its appearance but not degrade any of its performance or handling characteristics. In my humble opinion, my car is the best looking one around since it is silver instead of Black. Sorry Marlin, I could not resist that one! If you examine Marlin's car, you will notice that he may have lowered his car a ljust a tad more than 1", but the overall effect is the same in terms of achieving a more aggressive appearance but still understated to enhance the beauty of the car's design without overdoing it. Finally, whatever you decide, make sure that the overall fit stays within the stock specs for handling and avoid any set up that would make your tires rub during hard turns or over speed bumps.

Good luck.

I only mention that since his offsets are just a tad higher than mine which would accomodate a lower profile suspension.
