No more S-02s?
Hello,
I've recently become the proud owner of an '03 S2000 and I could use some advice on replacement for the OEM Potenza S-02s. The situation is this: I like the grip of the S-02s when it's dry and they're new, but I've had the wonderful pleasure of experiencing their grip (read: alarming lack thereof) when they're worn down a bit and it's wet out. After the repairs--and the rest of the cold/snowy season-- I think I may want a set of tires that will do better in the wet, and hopefully wear in a more linear fashion than the S-02s' precipitous tread wear. I've researched some tire choices, and I can't find any good descriptions of the difference between another set of S-02s or a set of RE960A/S Pole Positions (that sound like they're better in the wet) or a set of RE050A Pole Positions, which I seem to remember hearing somewhere are meant to replace the S-02. So, in summation, which model strike the best balance between grip and safety in the longer-term? Thanks to all who read through, I appreciate your patience with me. |

There's alodda good threads on this topic brod.
'Only problem with this kind'a thing is that most of us can only vouch for, at best, a few of the current crop of tires that're out there. (as I can for the S-02s n' the G-009s and the Dunlop WinterSport M3s. As far as I'm concerned the max tire for the car in good weather is still the S-02. A more conservative approach with concern for year-'roun' use would be the G-009s and, again, in my opinion, the top-dog hoop for winter use is the Dunlop WinterSport M3) But, my "wisdom" in chosin' these winners was the tappin' of the ample knowledge down at TireRack. They do this stuff for a livin' brod. So when they say that one tire will be better than another for the results that you're lookin' for for your ride . . it's info that's based on current testin' n' experience that you're not gonna get from normal folks that've only used a few different tires. Get thee to the experts brod. They won't steer ya wrong. Be well. N' like the ol' knight said . . . . Java

Thanks for the help, but I guess I'm on to different things now...My beutiful red dream car, that I have owned for all of five months, has been pronounced totaled. From now on, I know that whatever car I own, it will just not be good enough. Enjoy your S2000s, and take care.

Wow. In 12 hours and 21 minutes the question goes from 'which tire is best for our car' to 'I don't own the car any longer and am moving on.' That has to be some sort of a record.

A sad endin' if it does have the finality that brod makes it sound like. I hope it ain't as bad as all'at.
'Hope you ain't a stranger brod. Maybe your interest has been piqued enough to have you thinkin' 'bout a replacement unit. 'Any chance that it can be cobbled back into at least mechanically sound shape so that it can be butt-ugly but still pull duty? Exhaust all avenues brod. It's too good a time to allow it to fade without a real fight. Good luck n' be well. Java
