need help with offset PLEASE?
Ok, well i'm going to go ahead and pick up the Rota Slipstreams 16x7 in front and 16x8 rear. My question is what should my off set be to pretty much get the tires in postion of the stock placement or a safe offset. I dont want to deal with asking the guy that is trying to sell them to me because as most of us already know those guy will say anything to turn a profit. Hope someone can help me out thanks again guy!

??? Scratching head
The "alternative" offsets come from where and mean what? They all have less offset than stock which would mean that you couldn't fit wider tires, or maybe even stock width tires, without rubbing. All the offsets I have seen that actually work have mirrored or been more than stock (when you have wider rims). Lower offsets push the wheels out a little which leaves LESS room for tires. And also, don't go by rated tire sizes, go by actual sizes. The 16" S02s were wider than their rated size as are a lot of tires. Unfortunately a lot of tires are narrower than their rated sizes. If a tire manufacturer doesn't give an actual width you can bet that their tires are smaller than rated. I ran BFG KDs and the fronts were pretty near the same width as the S02s, but even when I went up 2 sizes on the rear they were nearly 1/2" narrower than the stock tires which gave me terminal oversteer. Now I am running an 18" Porsche spec S02 on the front and an 18" BMW spec S02 on the rear. This combo gives me quite a bit more total rubber on the road and gives a ratio of front/rear rubber that is only slightly off from the stock ratio which means my car handles like stock except with higher limits. |

To add to carguy's post- Thanks to FO2K at S2Ki for this info:
Just as the OEM 16 rear S02's have an unusually wide treadwidth, the OEM front RE050's have an unusually narrow treadwidth resulting in some difficulty maintaining the proper stagger when buying tires other than OEM RE050's. For instance, treadwidths for 215/45/17 (fronts): RE050 6.7 inches S03's 8.0 inches Dunlop SP Maxx 7.6 inches Dunlop SP9000 7.9 inches Goodyear GS03 7.1 inches YOK AVS Sport 7.6 inches Avon Tech M500 7.9 inches It is apparent that the OEM front tire was designed with a much narrower tread than most other tires the same size. This is not true of the rears (245/40/17) however: RE050 9.0 inches S03's 9.0 inches Dunlop SP Maxx 8.8 inches Dunlop SP9000 8.8 inches Goodyear GS03 8.3 inches YOK AVS Sport 8.7 inches Avon Tech M500 9.0 inches If some were to put S03's on there AP2. the rear tread width would remain the same, and the front would increase by 1.3 inches! I have to believe that this would significantly affect the handling of the car. If some one wanted to dial in more oversteer, fine. The change in handling may not be what everyone is looking for.
