Stock Brake Life

I've noticed a light skipping sound coming from the brakes when they're not applied, with occasional normal brake squeal when applied. I have just under 11,000 miles on it with a lot of canyon driving. I try not to be too hard on the brakes, but they definetely get heated up sometimes with some above average use. I'd like to think that there's some more life in the brake pads and definetely the rotors. What kind of lifespan have you guys seen from your stock brake setup?

THANKS

Aaay Blade, owyadoon?
That "skippin'" sound . . . godda tell ya that's a new one to me. It's the brake n' not the tire on the road that you're hearin'?
I used to think that I was rough on my equipment, but after readin' some of the mileage numbers that some of our site brethren get out'a their tires, I think I may be goin' pansy in my old age. So, I'm not really sure what category of abuse I fall under anymore.
I've got well over 20 thou on my daily driver '04 Stewie n' while my constant gas mileage of 20 mpg says to me that I'm in it a bit, my brakes are still the OEM originals n' last time I checked they're not quite due yet. I figure that I'm gonna be due this year though.
If you are heatin' 'em up as much as you think you are though, I'd agree with you about keepin' a sharp eye on your rotors.
Tires, brakin' systems n' oil pumps take no prisoners.
Be well Blade.

I've got 42,000 miles on my original pads. I'm not easy on them by any means. I'm getting close to needing pads, but probably won't need them for 5,000 more.

Yeah, it's defineteley coming from the brakes. It's best heard in quiet situations like parking garages, quiet streets, etc. ?? When I apply the brakes it goes away.

Almost sounds like the pucks ain't pullin' clear'a the rotors when they're not in use. N' the "skippin'" part of it could possibly be the hit-n'-miss of slightly warped (if you've seriously heated 'em up) rotors.
Easy enough to check r' have checked.
Be well Blade.

I would agree with either the pistons are not fully retracting or the disc could be warped. Both can be check by a professional. As for the squeeking, you could have glazed the pads. That happened to my rears. I switched them out and the problem was solved.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

There's been a couple of times where I've washed the car and put it away without driving it right away, which resulted in the parking brake getting stuck. I asume it was due to a small amount of rust forming on it as it dried, causing it to seize up. It went away after I drove for a while (with them stuck!, I didn't know what else to do) and set and released the brake a bunch of times. I suspect thats the root of my problem. Has this happened to anybody else before?

Had the brakes checked and with 11,950 miles of aproximately 70%canyon driving 30% city/highway driving, there was only 1 millimeter of pads left on the front, and less than that on the rears. Needless to say I'm replacing all of them and resurfacing the rotors.
So, check your brakes! Even if you assume your fine because of your low mileage.

Yes, Bladerunner. I have 150 miles on my 07 and after my 1st wash and parking it over night, the next morning when I pulled out I heard and felt a clump when the car first moved. The rear brakes do stick after washing and sitting for a bit. That is a little weird because none of my other cars do that.

I got 85k miles out of my first 2 sets of stock brakes which inluded 3 or 4 track days. I can't gauge my current brakes because I installed a set of Hawk hybrids in November and after my second track day on them on Friday, I had to do an emergency brake change on the fronts because I was down to the squealers after my 3rd session. It probably equated to about 12k miles
