What's the widest wheel I can get away with?

You'd think that the guys at the tire shop could answer that question correctly, but they can't. I already went throught the pain of putting ones that were too wide on the back. I had an offset of 18x7.5 in the front, and 18x8.5 in the back. The handling and turn radius was noticibly improved, but I quickly figured out that the back tires would rub the body on even the most insignificant bumps.

Could I get away with 18x8's all around, without getting any rub?

Adam, it all depends on how far from peak performance you wanna take it.
The 18x8.5 is the wheel diameter x width. You didn't list any offset.
The offset on the factory wheels is +55 up front n' +65 in the rear. Very extreme which'z why we ain't godda whole helluva lodda aftermarket wheels to choose from.
There's a chart that might be of help with figurin' out what you can fit, but if memory serves me, it only deals with the stock diameter wheel/tire combinations. Belly up to the black bar at the top'a the page n' select the second option:S2000 forums. You want the forum that deals with tires/wheels/suspension n' there's a post of that fitment chart available there.
Easiest way for you to come up with the answer to this would probably call up the knowledgeable souls at the 'Rack (TireRack).
It's a good deal. They keep on top'a what's new, what fits, what grips, n' all we godda do is call 'em. 'Works for me.
Be well.

Well, in my usual noobie fashion, I've completely misunderstood the meaning of offset until now. I always thought that was reffering to a difference in width of the front and back wheels. The wheel's offset is actually the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel.

So then, can you not put a "deep dish" wheel on a stock S2000? It looked by the charts that there are only positive offset setups, but I may just not understand how to read the chart properly.

'Fraid not Adam. The deep-dish wheel is exactly the wrong direction when it comes to Stewie. Well . . not exactly. We actually run on deep-dish wheels. But the deep-dish is in the opposite direction.
I'm guesstimatin' here Adam, but a deep dish wheel would run into the big-time negative numbers. As I said, we members of Stewieville run in the high positive numbers. So, if you took a stock wheel n' mounted it inside out, it'd probably give you an idea of why we can't use deep-dish wheels. A crude method, but like Popeye, I yam whut I yam.
The difference twixt front n' rear tire width is stagger. If I'm not mistaken it's also the difference in track width front n' rear.
I've been cryin' over the fact that we can't mount somethin' like the normal ol' American Racin' Mags (forget the deep-dish, that's totally undooable without major surgery), so I understand the desire. But, with the layout of Stewie's suspension, we jus' godda suffer with only the ability to lay waste to corners at will. Sigh. It's not an enviable job, but somebody's godda dooitt.
Oh . . n' don't go feelin' alone on jus' learnin' about offset. We may not willingly admit to it, but alodda the guys on the site weren't familiar with the term before becomin' acquainted with Stewie. Not me a'course . . but some'a the other guys.
Be well.

That's mildly disappointing, since I find the "deep dish" look attractive. I can live with being able to out corner most other cars on the road outside of a Porshe though.

Thanks again Java

Aaaay . . Porsche owners got bad days too. N' when they fall short they do it to the tune'a alot more rubles than we lowly Stewie-folk.
I've said it a bunch'a times Adam . . havin' an older, mechanically sound Mustang in the garage (if it's possible) as back-up, will allow you to smoke the tires when the mood so moves you, n' in your case, allow you somethin' with deep-dish wheels (those Anthracite Deep-dish Bullits'll do nicely).
Jus' a thought.
Be well.

Yeah there are a tiny amount of rims that

1. Look good on an S2000, and
2. Will fit without any problems

If you find a nice set, let me know. I don't like the choices at TireRack, personally.

The Volk CE28N is a nice wheel for the S, but there are several different looks of the same model, and not just color. I don't know the correct lingo for the differences, but it has to do with the way the hub is shaped. I like the one with the concave toward the brake side. I think it's a bit pricey though.
