ABS and Engine Problems, please help
Hi Everyone My names Heidi and i have just brought my S2000 51 plate and im already having problems with it!
My ABS seems to be kicking in when im coming to a stop! Not when im slowing down, just stopping! Its Making a horrible noise and the brake feels horrible. Is this my ABS? Also once the car has warmed up the engine makes a horrible ticking noise, i have been told it could be the timing chain, dose this sound right? Im new to this site too and so not sure what im doing lol but if anyone could help, i would be very greatful Thanks xxxxxxxxxxxx |

Hey Heidi, did you test drive the car before you purchased, and did you purchase from a garage or private......? whats 51 plate?

I think it sounds strange that the ABS should be kicking in when you come to a stop. Since it shouldn't kick i until you lock one or more wheels under speed. What is the condition on breakpads and rotors? My old beater Saab 9000's brakes were feeling horrible just before coming to a stop awhile back. Still that was not surprising and very natural since the pads were metal to metal What about the engine then? Is it quiet when cold? Can you describe the noise? Where do you think the noise comes from? Is it under idle or power or revving?

I suggest you get an oil change asap. It may be low and/or neglected. If the ticking noise continues after the oil change, take it to a dealer or technician that knows Hondas for evaluation.
Like Wheaz said, you may have worn pads and/or scored rotors. Have them checked before you do any damage or have an accident. And welcome to our forum!

Hello again
Yeah i did test drive it lol, and it was fine then.
Its just had a full service and MOT so dont understand why its suddenly happened. It has brand new brake pads, so it cant be that. and last night my ABS light came on! But after the light had come on the brake no longer were a problem!!!! Think the engine noise is the timing chain, it only dose it when its warm, and only when its sat still. Other wise it makes no noise what so ever. Thanks for you all getting back to me, im just going to take it to the honda garage and see what they think. Anyone live around oxford and going to the Jap fest at castle coombe in may? |

Ya if the ABS light came on If I am not mistaken the ABS in your car no longer works as long as that stays lit up. Not to much an issue aslong as you can break without locking up a wheel. The timing chain I have no clue about.

(Correct me if im wrong) Honda's have been known for ticking valves for many years. If it is very faint it is probally not an issue. I would change the oil again, or at least check the dipstick to ensure proper oil levels. If your oil is low, not enough oil will lubricate your valves and they will "tick" as they rise right below your valve cover on the engine. What year and how many miles does your car have? If you have under 60k it is definately not a timing belt issue and most likely a bad oil change regimine.

Ya my car was a bit low on oil and I could hear ticking louder than usual. I shut'ter off and put some in and she quietted right on up.

Check the brake fluid to see if it's low. Mine came on around left hand turns in the middle of a track day and I checked the fluid and it was a little low.
The ticking in the engine is probably due to oil starvation. Check the oil level ASAP or that could be a very costly repair especially if there is no extended warranty.
