In Defense'uv Hi-Toppz
So, I'm jus' back from playin' Mr. Fixxitt to a low-profile tire/aluminum rim meetz Mr. Pothole. Once again, this round went'ta Mr. Pothole.
'Wuzzn't me, but it made me think that there'z alot ta be said fer tires whut got sidewalls. Aaay! Everything'z a balance. 15 series tires're no-doubt outrageous handlerz, but realistically, have no purpose on everyday streets forced ta deal with the likez'a Mr. Pothole n'izz nasty, assorted friendz. Stock, Stewie'z packin' as little sidewall'z I'd ever wanna go with on'a mean streets. Track'z anutha animal entirely. But so many timez the great, big-headed godz'a style n' looks sink their hookz into the unwary n' then there'z jus' one more patsy takin' a section'a road at 4 miles per hour, when his stock tirez/rimz/suspension would'a allowed a normal pace. 'Somethin' ta consider when those glossy picturez'uv the wheelz with the ultra-low-profile tirez grab yer attention by the throat. Be well, Java

I like the fact that my AP1 has a 16" wheel, with a little extra meat between the rim and the road........Yonderland is full of potholes, 'n while the stewie is good at dodging them, every once in a while one will appear, seemingly out of nowhere. Even if it ain't much, it's nice to have a little cushion.
Very good Point Java Junky. Regards, Jagg |

15 series? That's like a wheel with 2 wraps of electrical tape isn't it?

Article in the L.A. Times today stating large wheels and low profile tires don't handle as well or last as long. Mainly for show they say.

I remember a magazine article where they tested the plus sizing theory. The compromise is flat contact patch during heavy cornering vs. weight. Larger wheels carry a higher inertial penalty because the weight is at the farther from the hub compared to smaller wheels.
Everyone wants the look of a filled wheel well. Stewie does it best out of the box whether with 16's or 17's. |
