Defective valve stems
Once again, that great Chinese quality has jeopardized the lives of millions of people. This time it's the valve stems for your wheels.
Read this for details............ http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/2008061...e_stems_safety

Terrific informative notice Don. 'Don't know how you stay on topp'a so much, but jus' grateful'a'cha'doo.
But, I godda make one observation:'iss ain't'z much commonplace Chinese quality, 'z'itt'izz the almighty American greed seekin' out the lowest bidder'n allowin'em to doo'itt to us again'n again'n again'n again'n again'n ad nauseum. If we allow it, we deserve it. But, as most'uv us weren't aware'uv'itt, thanks. Java

I saw this the other day on the news. The problem is, no manufacturer is gonna change from China cause its so cheap. Until something like this happens to most manufacturers, nothings gonna change. Kinda frustrating. How many more F-ups do we have to have before they realize shits not safe.

Best tact, from a defensive standpoint....
Check your tire pressures, and check them often. I'm not going to unmount my tires to figure out whether or not I have the offending valve stems . They appear to be ok.........an ounce of prevention, folks. Take a close look at yer stems people! If they're looking all dried out and brittle, best to play it safe. Currenty, I'm running two baloney skins on the rear. Just turned 20K miles on my 2002 stewie. Tires looked new when I purchased it with 10 thousand miles on the clock, last Sept. , and they were not the original rubber. (stored for the really nasty winter months, but makes appearances at times, under the proper conditions, regardless of ambient temperature or whether or not Hank is playin' on the music box) Otherwise, it's my daily beater....'n I promise you , I do. Fronts appear to be healthy for now. (appx 60%) I'm hoping to get another 1,000 miles before I see cord. I'm running 400 miles per week, consistantly. Disclaimer: I do not promote doing this, as it can present great risk, especially during wet driving conditions, 'n the chances of screwin' up your ride become greatly increased. My opinions cannot be trusted. Play it safe and eyeball your valve stems......won't take but a minute. Regards, Jagg |

If in doubt, wipe them periodically with 303 protectant. In fact do the whole tire. It works.

I forgot, some people don't read directions. They specifically state not to use it on treads.

China's not that hard to deal with, we do it at my company. What we learned (the hard way of course) is that they will only make what you specify. If you don't say "no lead paint on the toys" then they feel free to use it. If you don't specify the grade of rubber and how it's treated for the valve stems, they'll make them however they want...
