New champ... (tires)

Ok, I've been researching tires recently and here is what i found.

The best tires (IMHO) to buy right now are 'Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec'.

Set of 4 (for ap2) will cost ~$600 shipped (TireRack), that is $220 less than OEM tires, but Star Specs are better than stock (angain IMO based on reviews i've read) and are considered Extreme Performance vs. Max Performance (Potenzas).

Here is TireRack review/test:
TireRack

Google them and see what people say.
Here is one from NSX forum: "i can't speak for the longevity of the tire, but when I switched to these at Autocross I went from a consistent 4th place to finishing 1st the last two races against all the same people. I didn't change anything else about the car. Just the tires. another guy had RE01Rs and we got an independent driver to compare our cars and he gave the edge to Star Specs hands down.. for the money, I don't think anything will touch them."

Anyway, it seems like people here don't know much about these tires, so i just wanted to share. Please research and let me know what do you think about them, as I am considering getting them in the near future.

About 90% of the people I know who own S2k's run Bridgestone RE-01R's. So far it's the best gripping tire I've run (and I've run Dunlops, Michelins and Goodyears). The Goodyear F1-GS D3 are a close second. Both tires take some scrubbing in before they hit maximum grip. I run 34 lbs in the front and 32lbs in the rear and the car is almost neutral in handling.

That is exactly my point Look at the charts: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=107

especially performance data charts.
z1 star spec outperform re-01r in every aspect (except comfort variables).

And that is what i read on different forums as well from people who actually have these tires...

Now factor in the price:
245/40ZR17 re-01r costs $220 each
z1 star spec cost $162 each...

The consensus I've heard from my fellow SCCA Autocrosser's here in Houston is that the Dunlops are just as good as the Bridgestones (some say better) but lots cheaper.
Get them before the price goes up!

I have run Brigdestone, falken ziexs, Khumo escatas, and Yokohamas. My favorites are the tires on my car now... the falken Azenis rt-615 great grip and they are perfect for cambered cars
