ap1 rims vs ap2 rims

Will the Ap1 rims fit the ap2 with no problems?

tu, thought so but wanted to confirm... and powdercoating costs are what usually

1 coat 2 coat
Wheels or Rims (per condition)60.00-120.0085.00 -170.00

per rim, does that sound about right?

dude... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge that.

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html

if you prep the wheels correctly, you can do this yourself for a FRACTION of the cost of powdercoating...

I agree you can do a lot better than those prices... thats a little out there. The duplicolor works but I hear that the only down side to that versus actual powder coating is when you get your tires changed the paint comes off pretty easily (especially if you have a tire tech who doesn't know what they are doing)......

I was looking into getting my AP2 wheels powder coated black as well. I checked around and found the best deal for $90 per wheel. I considered doing it myself with this spray on kit but I always tend to screw things up whenever paint is involved, so I'll pass on this.

Has anyone seen the latest AP2 wheels in black before? Curious to see how they look but I'm assuming they will look nice on a GPW

Nobody has mentioned it yet but you do know the tires are different sizes right? You can't use tires from an AP2 on AP1 wheels.

Cosmetic appearance of the 17" wheel looks better than any 16"

Check out JDM ap1 rims. Little different look but they're lots lighter and I really like the way they look on my car.

They're made by bbs and are the right offsets. If the paint on them didn't match my S, I'd have them polished.

I agree, the 17's look much better.
Possibly you could find AP1 style wheels
in the 17 inch size.

For powder coating and wheel repair "wheels America" is very cost effective. And my Avitar is a JDM BBS wheel like other 3 on my car.

Timely post. I just switched from AP1 to AP2 rims last weekend. Appearance wise, I never cared too much either way. The 17's maybe brighten up the car a bit. Had a sense that the additional sidewall on the 16's contributed to the snap oversteer. And after swapping and to my surprise, I think I might have been right for once.

Unfortunately, in my case, the seller overstated the condition of the Summitomos. They are pretty worn out and slide more than my 16" Hankooks. Still deciding what to replace them with.

The other obvious diff in switching, is the ride is rougher with the 17's. The old line about running over a dime in the road being able to tell if it was heads or tails. Seems true.

Finally, I wonder of the AP2 rims might become more of a collectors item. I have been tracking them for a year on various Craigslist cities. They are getting harder to find and prices seem to be going up. Also, see more "AP2 Rims Wanted" posts.

If you want to switch from AP2 to AP1 rims, I think you will find a lot of takers. You should net a few bucks in the deal.
