235 40R17 on AP2 front?

Does anyone know if I can easily increase my front tire width to 235 40R17 in the front of my 2008 AP2 with a 1" drop without rubbing issues? I'm looking at the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs.

I'd also like to increase the rears to 255 40R17 as well, which is the size that the CR runs.

This sounds like a Zaczx post! Anyway, I really don't see that happening. 235's on the front are going to be bulging in the middle - the tires are going to wear unevenly, and you'll loose that light steering feel. Believe me, you won't need that extra grip with the Star Specs...these things are like duct tape.

Surely, 255's will work in the rear, but then again, unless you drive like a crazed lunatic, you will not need that extra grip!

Well I'm not Zack. Check my other posts.

I think that I'll stick with the 215's upfront, but I want a more aggressive look in the rear, like the CR. That's why I'm going to 255 in the back.

Now that I think about it, the 215's already bulge past the rim in the front, so it's probably best for me to stick to stock there (215/45ZR17).

The Star Specs are like crazy inexpensive, I can get a complete set from Tire Rack for $540.00 Has anyone found them for less?

The 'Rack (I love saying that for some reason) was recently giving away a $60 mail-in rebate with the Star Specs....I think it ended last month, but another rebate might pop up soon. I actually think it was Dunlop who was giving away the rebate. Anyway, true - I got my Star specs shipped for less that $500 I think, and you can't beat that! Another site to check is Treadepot.com (as you can see at the top of this page).

They are more than TireRack and don't have stock.

Discounttiredirect.com's($578.00) prices are a bit higher than Tirerack.com ($540.00), but Discounttiredirect.com offers free freight. Tirerack.com's freight is ($51.54). I ordered 2 tires for my sons car from Discount tire direct and got them in 2 days, so I know they ship fast.

Total cost delivered:

Tire Rack $637.34
Discount Tire Direct $578.00

See the attached tire size comparison. Does anyone think that this will make a difference in the speedo? Does the CR have different Speedo calculations for it's larger tire size?

Certainly not - that 8mm difference in diameter is no different than comparing a new tire to an old worn out tire. Sure, it'll effect the speedo, but you or anyone else won't be able to notice. Before you buy the 255's, I think it'd be a good idea to check your rear clearance with the 245's you have on now. I seriously doubt it would be an issue, but it would be good to make sure you have an extra quarter inch on both sides of tire.

Yes, I have enough room, even with the drop. Good point about the new vs old tire size.

I am running 255-40/17 in the rear and 225-45/17 up front with no problems at all. Also all tires are wearing very evenly with over 20k on the BFG KDW's.

That's good to know! Are the sidewall heights of the tires even in the front and rear or does one look taller than the other? Do the tires bulge evenly?

cheese, did you go with the 215-45/17 and 255-40/17 combo? If so, how is it working out?

I am considering the same option for my ride. Just saw the 255s on another car, but the owner said the car was lowered an inch so it was a little tough to compare.

will, how is the 225-45/17 255-40/17 feeling? little more agressive look in the front?

Everything more or less still under the fenders?

No, Since I only replaced the rears this time, and Bridgestone doesn't offer the OEM RE050 in a 255 width (or at least that I could find) I went with OEM rears for now. When I replace all 4 tires I'll go with the wider set up.

with the BFG KDW's 225/45 fronts and 255/40 rears the side wall height is the same. the front does not bulge at all. however the next tire change i will opt for the 265/40 for the rear because i want a slight rake between front and rear.

I ran 225 front and 255 rear on stock wheels for a while they werent the star specs but I am currently running them on my advan's. It felt better to me! I didnt notice a huge difference until i switched wheel sizing. Going to a 235 on the stock front isnt gonna be that great i run 9 in wide fronts and i still run 225. every driver is different i guess. just my 2 cents

Man guys the stock stuff works great really. Just buy a new good tire will give you the grip you need. I took the star specs in rain on an s2k drive and in one spot just left like 28 S in my dust. Was called crazy after that.
